Baba Yatahma

Gordon Lee Miles also known as Baba Yatahma is the inventor and producer of YAMAGOCHI (Chess - 81) the strategic game study of the new millennium. Mr Miles an avid chess player looked at the game of chess and saw that there was room for additional spaces on the board and additional pieces. On December 23rd, 1973 Mr. Miles awoke from a dream that had revealed to him to design a chess game for a 9x9 board

Though the game had not been named he wanted to express history that showed other cultures besides the standard chess culture that depicts only Europe. It took 18 years of research and development to succeed in bringing a new look to his strategic skills study. By adding 17 squares to the game's playing board, two additional pieces and giving the pieces names of ancient African civilizations and some unique characters to the Yamagochi pieces, YAMAGOCHI (Chess - 81) was completed and born to the world. Along with this strategic skill study a philosophy became prevalant and developed to explain YAMAGOCHI (Chess - 81).

Mr. Miles made presentation of the game at the USA WORLD OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP and was receive heartily. Many players from the world over like the complete product. Several chess players purchased the sets and played YAMGOCHI as their second game of strategic study.

Mr. Miles taught Chess and YAMAGOCHI to students at Wakisha Charter School in Philadelphia for six (6) month until the Enrichment Program was discontinued. Mr. Miles held a YAMAGOCHI (Chess-81) and Standard Chess Street Academy in Camden City on Broadway daily. Many children were involved and developed their skills. One t student Mr. Lawrence Taylor became captain of Camden's Leap Academy Chess Team and he is knowledgeable in YAMAGOCHI (Chess-81). The street academy lasted for ten years prior to Mr. Miles retirement from Camden's Broadway as a vendor.

Gordon Miles was born in Philadelphia PA. July 7 1942. He served in the USA Marine Corps from October 1959 to October 1963. He attended Opportunity Industrialization Program (OIC) in Philadelphia, studying as a Drafting trainee in1964. He later worked for OIC as a recruiter from 1965 -1966. Mr. Miles left OIC to start his venture in entertainment and began with Mr. Robert Kenyatta starting what was called Muntu (human) cultural night. He also developed the school of Muntu Culture through the Black Coalition in Philadelphia in 1967-1968. Mr. Miles served as the Cultural Director. In 1968 after the funding for the Coalition was cut, Mr. Miles became an entrepreneur and started designing and making Jewelry. Mr. Miles remained self employed until his retirement from Camden City Broadway as a vendor in 2007.

Mr. Miles moved to Miami Florida in 1978. He attended Miami — Dade Community College summer program 1982. He studied Business Management and music for percussions. During that period he played with the Miami Dade Jazz Ensemble and performed at noontime Lively Arts shows hosted by the school.

Mr. Miles lived in Miami Beach, Fla. from 1978 until 1989. During that time Mr. Miles was musically active with several dance companies. He played several types of percussion instruments. Mr. Miles performed in several plays "The Lion and the Jewel" by Wole Soyinka the 1984 Nobel Peace Prize Laureate He was the music director being responsible for a ninety minute music score and six dances. That performance was held at the Guzman Cultural Center in Miami City from February 16th thru the 19th 1982. He also performed as the lead in Dream on Monkey Mountain a play written by Dexter Walcott in 1981 which premiered at Florida International University at Miami. He later moved to Washington, DC in 1989.

Mr. Miles returned to Philadelphia in 1991 from Washington DC and began the finalization of YAMAGOCHI (Chess — 81). He began producing YAMAGOCHI GAME SETS by hand. He started teaching YAMAGOCHI (Chess-81) through Teach-In Learn—In Play-In sessions as a means to expose YAMAGOCHI (Chess-81) to the public. The sessions were well attended and were held throughout Philadelphia PA., Baltimore MD and Washington DC and Camden, New Jersey from1992 to 2007. Mr. Miles has appeared on several radio talk shows and a few television appearances during 90's in Philadelphia, Pa. and Washington, Dc. promoting YAMAGOCHI (Chess-81).

Mr. Miles established Yamagochi International Corporation In 1995. He is the CEO/ Chairman of the company. Currently Mr. Miles is seeking the funds to mass produce YAMAGOCHI GAME SETS and paraphernalia i.e.; caps, jackets, tee shirts, sweatshirts, pens, mouse pads, cups, CD-Rom, "The Official Yamagochi Rule Book" and "The Completely Illustrated Official Yamagochi (Chess-81) Handbook". Mr. Miles is developing several YAMAGOCHI websites to market YAMAGOCHI products worldwide.

Mr. Miles moved to Camden from Philadelphia in June 1998 requested by Mr. Charles Gray from Genesis School of Business, to teach YAMAGOCHI (Chess-81) at Jamesburg and Yardville youth institutions. Other institutions that Yamagochi (Chess- 81) was taught was Graterford Correctional Facility in 1992 hosted by The Lifers Program at that facility.
